Overview

Youth work supports the social and emotional development of young people, challenging their viewpoints and opinions, encouraging reflection and inquiry, asking them to question themselves and others, and enabling them to make choices in their lives. Youth work has always been a key focus for Valleys Kids.

Youth work sessions are led by highly experienced and qualified youth workers. Our programme of youth work takes place across many of our centres (visit our Places page and click on a centre to see a timetable of activity). We also offer youth trips to our residential centre on the Gower, Little Bryn Gwyn.
As one of our youth workers said, “You can do more effective youth work in one weekend at Little Bryn Gwyn, than in a whole six months in youth club”.

Places
"

“This space is very important, not just to me, but for everyone. It gives us opportunities to be able to talk to people, especially for people who suffer with anxiety, depression or disabilities. It keeps us sane and feeling whole and warm.”

Benefits

Benefits of our youth work programme include building young people’s self-esteem and self-confidence, building essential skills and developing young people’s ability to manage personal and social relationships. Youth work helps to break down barriers between communities, supports the empowerment of individuals and helps to educate young people about discrimination and injustice.

For our young people, youth work is important as it provides an escape from their daily lives.
