Spirits are soaring as free extra-curricular clubs return!

Our Penygraig community has voiced their desire for extra-curricular activities for children in the area and Trivallis Community Investment Fund is helping us to fulfil this need by funding posts for play workers to run two weekly after-school clubs in our SOAR centre, Penygraig, running for 12 weeks between April and June.

These sessions will be for children between the ages of 5 and 11 years of age and will offer an opportunity for children to come together to play, learn and socialise in a safe space that encourages creativity and fosters a sense of community.

There will be plenty of variety in these sessions, with activities ranging from arts and crafts to growing vegetables in the SOAR centre garden. Hopefully there will be something to interest everyone.

This will be the first time Valleys Kids has offered these activities since the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The sessions will be a chance to bring children back into the SOAR centre to enjoy the freedom of playing with others in the community.

A representative from Trivallis said,

“Trivallis is proud to be supporting Valleys Kids with its Together Again after school clubs. Restrictions around Covid-19 saw young people miss out on being with their friends to play and socialise, which is such an important part of growing up.  Trivallis’ Community Investment Fund is designed to support organisations and projects that promote social inclusion, and we are very supportive of any initiative that helps bring young people together again in a safe place. We are looking forward to seeing the difference these clubs will make for young people in our communities.”

Starting on 4th April, sessions will run every Monday and Tuesday afternoon between 4pm – 5.30pm. Sessions are open access, with no need to book.  Children six and under must be accompanied by an adult throughout the session.

The play worker posts are funded directly by the Trivallis Community Investment Fund through Community Foundation Wales. A huge thank you to Trivallis for making this happen!
