In reaching this decision, the key considerations were:

  • The recommendations of a report commissioned by Valleys Kids from the highly
regarded Manchester Business School on the sustainability of the Factory as part of
    the Valleys Kids property portfolio.
  •  Our strategy of divesting less crucial properties so that the proceeds can be used to
develop the core services delivered to our communities and to safeguard local jobs.
  • Our aim to focus on providing services from the community hubs of Soar in
Penygraig and the Penyrenglyn Centre, along with the Play Yard operated by our
social enterprise Valleys Creative and based in Ynyswen.
  • The lack of funds available to develop the Factory into a base from which we could
provide direct support to the community.
  • The substantial cost savings that could be achieved by not supporting the
maintenance and running costs of the property.

The impact of the sale on our current tenants and key stakeholders is a prime concern for
us, and we will be keeping them informed of the process and progress throughout.
The sale of the Factory follows on from the sale of our residential centre in West Wales in
August 2025. On that occasion the property was sold to partners of ours, Down to Earth. By
collaborating with them, we were able to ensure that the original vision and objectives will
continue to be delivered for funders, services users and the wider community. We are
looking to adopt a similar approach, if possible, to the sale of the Factory.
