We beat our target!

£56,171 raised for Phase 2

Little Bryn Gwyn
Big Give 2018

You've missed the Big Give this year

Every pound you gave was matched by another from the Garfield Weston Foundation

A Dream come True: Little Bryn Gwyn – Phase 1 COMPLETED!

Thanks to 100s of generous donors an amazing £56,171 has been raised in The Big Give Challenge to Raise the Roof of Little Bryn Gwyn Activity Centre.

The Single Storey Activity Centre

The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2018 raised an astonishing total of £56,171.25 – far more than we imagined possible.

A huge THANK YOU to all those who donated.

Work will begin on the Activity Centre in early January and we hope it will be completed in Summer 2019.   We will keep you posted on progress.

We still need to raise funds for landscaping work around the site, but we now have now secured enough funding to complete the Activity Centre  building, which means that even more children and families will be able to visit and benefit from sessions there next year.

The Single Storey Activity Centre adjacent to the Residential Centre will provide a unique space for training, respite and out-of-the ordinary experiences for vulnerable people of all ages.

Our communities are reeling in the financial climate and we are  suffering from cutbacks in funding and so we need support now more than ever before to provide opportunities and activities where there is shrinking investment, reduction in services and a growing sense of despair.

Little Bryn Gwyn represents a beacon of hope for better things.

The redevelopment Little Bryn Gwyn to create a 30 bed Residential Centre and an Activity Wing has been a long held dream and once complete will be a unique Flagship Centre on a 6 acre site in one of Wales most stunning coastal locations,  providing disadvantaged children, young people and families with a special place to grow, explore, discover and be more fulfilled human beings

The dream

Valleys Kids purchased Little Bryn Gwyn, a 2 bedroomed cottage, from Barnardo’s to support disadvantaged children and families from ex-mining communities in the South Wales Valleys. Set in 6 acres in the Gower, we are half-way to realising our dream. We have completed an extraordinary, sustainable 30 bed Eco-Residential Centre. Now we are creating an Eco-Activity Centre to give disadvantaged children, young people and vulnerable adults from deprived Valleys communities happy memories and unique, life-changing experiences in one of Wales’ most stunning coastal locations.

The plan

The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2018, thanks to the generous support from the Garfield Weston Foundation 60th Anniversary Fund gave us an opportunity to raise £50,000 in just one week. We exceeded our expectations. Huge thanks to our generous donors. We have now secured funding for the Activity Centre. Our final challenge is to raise funding to landscape and develop the 6 acre site creating a unique space for environmental and outdoor activities.

Jessica speaks about the positive impact that Valleys Kids have had on her life

Through Little Bryn Gwyn and its other projects Valleys Kids is making a real difference to young people's lives in an area where change is hard to find.

Become part of that change now.

1 in 4 children live in poverty in the Valleys. Young people live with a legacy of unemployment; they are failing and being failed by the education system. Some have poor literacy & numeracy, suffer from low-self esteem and poor aspirations. Many live in families struggling to survive economically and emotionally. Some are single parent or stepfamilies where drugs & alcohol, mental health problems or domestic violence are all too common. It’s a crippling downward spiral, which destroys any hope of a positive fulfilling life for themselves and their children.

This remarkable project will engage ‘hard to reach’ young people and vulnerable adults who will benefit from it, by helping to build their own eco-residential centre using natural, locally sourced materials. Once completed, we can extend the benefits of Residential sessions at Little Bryn Gwyn providing diverse volunteering & training opportunities for young people; respite for families facing obstacles helping them gain control of their lives and giving children & families happy memories.

By joining the Big Give, you can become part of this important project.

All donations given in the seven days, midday 27th November to midday 4th December, will be matched pound for pound by the Garfield Weston Foundation.

Save the Date!
