Make it! – a new model of theatre making / Gwnewch e! – fodel newydd o wneud theatr.

Make it! A brand new network, commissioning and touring model led by and for emerging artists in Rhondda Cynon Taff (RCT).

Make it! is a new model of theatre making. It is an emerging artist-led network that seeks to connect up-and-coming performance creatives aged 18 – 29 in RCT with each other. Make it! also aims to innovate the way performance is commissioned, made and toured.

The project runs for 18 months from July 2021 – February 2023 and is funded by the Arts Council of Wales ‘Connect & Flourish’ second round funding stream. Emerging artists will commission and create their own artistic practice, produce performance themselves, then tour the work to venues and community spaces across RCT and beyond.

Make it! was an urgent call from emerging artists – Covid 19 and ‘Lockdown’ saw everything come to a halt for graduates and early career artists, especially those from disadvantaged areas. Through Sparc, Valleys Kids an emerging artist group met to address this problem. They shared their individual manifestos’ for change in open meetings with freelancers and organisations who rallied to support them. Out of this the partnership was born.

The Partners

Leading the process are Hannah Lad, Ryan Stead and Kyle Stead from Off Ya Trolley Productions with Kiara Sullivan an applied drama practitioner from UWTSD recently joined by theatre-maker Yasmin Williams.

Local freelancers Ian McAndrew and Matteo Marfoglia who has worked with emerging artists in Italy as well as Wales.

Companies in RCT include Citrus Arts, Leeway Productions, Afon Dance, Artis Community, Spectacle Theatre, RCT theatre’s and Sparc, Valleys Kids alongside Interlink – the umbrella company for the voluntary sector in RCT, Dirty Protest who support new writing and Wales Millennium Centre, creative learning team.

Any emerging artists living or working in RCT aged 18-29 are welcome to get involved with Make it! at any time, as members of the partnership.

Valleys Kids Christmas Appeal 2021

A Massive Thank You!

This year, because of the kindness and generosity of our communities, we have supported 150 families and 411 children this Christmas.

We were able to give gifts to 14 primary schools, Rhondda Housing Association, Action for Children, Challenging behaviour Support, and through our own projects.

Christmas is a magical time for many, but for families struggling to make ends meet, it can be a time of stress and challenge.

Each year, Valleys Kids aims to make Christmas easier for families by providing gifts for children and this year has been a phenomenal success thanks to individuals, groups and businesses collecting and donating money and gifts to our appeal.  From the bottom of our hearts…

THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!!

Here is what your donations mean to the community:

Incredible pyjama total donated by Thomas Carroll!

Thank you so much to Sheralee Lewis and all our friends at Thomas Carroll Caerphilly branch for donating a truly amazing 294 pairs of pyjamas to this year’s Christmas Gift Appeal. Huge thanks to all friends and family members of the team who made donations. We are blown away ❤️

NatWest Pontypridd Branch Delivers AGAIN!

Thank you so much to the team at NatWest Pontypridd Branch for another amazing donation of pyjamas, socks, underwear and children’s clothing for this year’s appeal.  Every year we can rely on the kindness of the staff to give our gift appeal a huge boost.  We couldn’t do this without you!  ❤️
