Advocacy

Individuals and communities suffering from deprivation are often in the weakest position to demand the services they require.

In recent years we have heard much about community capacity building and one of the most neglected areas is enabling communities to be able to advocate on their own behalf. The need for individuals and groups to be in a position to be able to put a case together to argue for what is required become more apparent as the Regeneration Partnerships develop.

Community Advocacy support individuals and communities to explore solutions to problems enabling them to resolve neighbour disputes, solve debt problems, housing issues and support people through medical, employment and benefit tribunals and by establishing neighbourhood watch schemes and tenants and residents associations.

Community advocacy also plays a role in supporting families to ‘grow out of poverty’ by involving people to join Credit Unions and helping them to receive their rights and entitlements.
