Rhod, who currently hosts his own radio show, aptly named "The Rhod Gilbert Radio Show", broadcast by BBC Radio Wales, visited the charity in conjunction with a team from BBC Children in Need. The BBC selected Valleys Kids as one of the charities to feature as part of a short Film for the annual televised fundraiser, taking place this year on the 18th November 2011. Valleys Kids were really lucky that the surprise guest came along to meet them all as part of the filming. Rhod Gilbert came to chat with the young people, play pool and learn more about the important work made possible by the grant from Children in Need. Unfazed by his celebrity the young people quizzed Rhod about his car, and told him a joke or two….after spending the afternoon in the Dinas Project, Rhod said that he will be happy to help Valleys Kids in the future, and we are in the process or organising a future fundraiser.
The Children in Need grant has enabled us to employ a dedicated Youth and Play Worker to allow our Dinas Project to run 5 day provision and provide for the wider community more effectively.
BBC Children in Need exists to change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. BBC Children in Need are currently supporting c.2,500 projects that are working with children facing a range of disadvantages for example, poverty and deprivation; disabled young people and children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect. Since their first major Appeal in 1980 BBC Children in Need has raised over £600 million. Thank you Children in Need, and thank you Rhod!
