About Artworks

The ArtWorks team is an integral part of the community development work at Valleys Kids and we work with young people in a variety of settings. Using creative techniques the children and young people explore different areas of their lives and the lives of others in a positive way. The vital aspect of the youth theatre work is the social development of the young people involved.

There is usually an end result; a piece of theatre devised and performed by the young people, a piece of visual art, a visit to a professional production etc.

ArtWorks explore a multi-disciplinary approach including theatre, dance, music and video. However we place a strong emphasis on theatre because of its social nature. We often work through story and fiction to help disaffected young people tackle issues and events affecting their lives in a meaningful and creative way. We work intensively through drama and arts residencies to develop young people’s confidence and skills.

We have recently launched our new 16-25 programme Flight Wings offering; mentoring; support; student and volunteer placements; training events and peer led creative projects in the creative industries. These are available to young people with an interest in the arts. We also offer projects to young people who find it difficult to access the arts for example young mums.

Valleys Kids encourage young people to take an active part in productions and also host high quality professional Dance, Music and Theatre Companies in Soar Ffrwdamos, a beautifully refurbished chapel, for the benefit of the wider community.

The Artworks team has an International profile developing work in Barcelona, Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Jordan and New York.

If you are a young person aged 8 – 25 and interested in drama, music, dance, video or any other of the arts we would love to hear from you. If you are an adult and would like to volunteer please get in touch. It doesn’t matter if you have never been involved in the arts before you just have to be prepared to come along and take part.
