Pharaoh's Playground
Wednesday, July 07, 2010
On the 4th June 2010 Penygraig Drama Workshop performed ‘Pharaoh’s Playground’ in the Soar Centre in Penygraig.
The ten young people aged 8 to 13 participated in a week’s residency from Saturday 29th May through to the performance on Friday 4th June. This was the second performance of the day for the ArtWorks team as Rhydyfelin Drama Workshop had performed ‘Escape from Wonderland’ at the Ilan Centre in Rhydyfelin in the afternoon.
A big thank you to the many volunteers who helped out in the show, from set painting to preparing the teas and coffees – we couldn’t have done it without you! There was a good turn out of audience numbers who came to support the show, including young people from Rhydyfelin and Dinas Valleys Kids projects.
Penygraig Drama Workshop devised the piece and also helped to create a movement piece and song that were in the show. In the show, a group of young people from Penygraig are whisked away to Egypt by a young Pharaoh who wants to make them his slaves. They discover through play that although the body may be owned it takes a lot to enslave the mind. They worked so hard and performed well. We are very proud of what Penygraig Drama Workshop has achieved!
