In each community they have been intergrated into existing comminty groups mixing in adult and other community groups to create a community cast. They show has been really successful and we can’t wait to be part of it.

“Wales is at civil war – what does this mean for you? Where is the safest place for you to be?
Anyone can become a refugee – what if it happened to you?
Swarm is a brand new immersive theatre experience, giving the audience a chance to feel what it could be like if they were put in the shoes of a refugee. Working with a professional and community cast, this is a unique production unlike anything else you may have seen.”
Supported by the Big Lottery, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and ArtWorks Valleys Kids.
Swarm will be performed on Friday 28th July at 7pm in the Factory. Tickets are available here… https://fio.yapsody.com/event/book/111541/452086

Ten-year-old Sophie is in for the adventure of a lifetime when she meets the Big Friendly Giant. Naturally scared at first, the young girl soon realizes that the 24-foot behemoth is actually quite gentle and charming. As their friendship grows, Sophie’s presence attracts the unwanted attention of Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater and other giants. After traveling to London, Sophie and the BFG must convince Queen Elizabeth to help them get rid of all the bad giants once and for all.
Join us for our last event of the season which is certain to leave you feeling all warm and Christmassy.
Artworks would like to invite you to the first production by our Penygraig Drama Workshop. These children are aged 8 – 12 and their commitment, passion and dedication to their show is admirable. They have been working tirelessly with their support worker Caroline Bunce to bring you their take on Hans Christian Anderson ‘the LIttle Match Seller’
The performance takes us on a journey of a little girl who is sent out into the freezing cold nights to sell her tapers. She freezes near to death for fear of the punishment should she go home with no money for the family. One night her beloved Nana appears from the stars and we see the little match seller find her happy place once more.
We would love to show you our story so please join us in Soar Centre at 7pm on Saturday 29th October. We will be serving refreshments after the show and holding a raffle to support the development of ArtWorks and Valleys Kids.
To book your free tickets in advance or to donate a raffle prize please contact Emma@valleyskids.org or call us on 01443 303032
We look forward to seeing you and showing off our stars.

RCT Homes, Valleys Kids and Artes Mundi are currently collaborating on an exciting and innovative regeneration project called “it’s art but it’s not” as part of the Arts Council of Wales, Ideas, People and Places scheme. For the past year, a group of young people has been working with a contemporary artist Rabab Ghazoul, exploring the local environment, local history, dialogues amongst the group and conversations with local residents and businesses in the area.
The result is an amazing and inspirational installation of posters and billboards created by the group, which will feature in sites around the town. Rabab Ghazoul says, “The young people I’ve been working with have created some very subtle, touching, and sophisticated work.”
The installation was launched at a lovely event on Saturday March 12th 2016.
If you would like to see the work there are maps available from our local shops, Penygraig Central Office at 1, Cross Street, Penygraig and the Soar Centre or you can download them here from our website.
The work is creating a mini sensation locally… do come and see for yourselves.
Please call ArtWorks: 01443 303032/ 07812249921 for more details.
Check out a few pictures below from the launch event on 12th March 2016:
The Lady in the Van tells the true story of Alan Bennett’s strained friendship with Miss Mary Shepherd, an eccentric homeless woman whom Bennett befriended in the 1970s before allowing her temporarily to park her Bedford van in the driveway of his Camden home. She stayed there for 15 years. As the story develops Bennett learns that Miss Shepherd is really Margaret Fairchild (died 1989), a former gifted pupil of the pianist Alfred Cortot. She had played Chopin in a promenade concert, tried to become a nun, was committed to an institution by her brother, escaped, had an accident when her van was hit by a motorcyclist for which she believed herself to blame, and thereafter lived in fear of arrest.
