Martyn Williams Opens Ilan Gym
Wednesday, August 12, 2009
Crowds surrounded the British Lions flanker as he passed on invaluable training tips and tackled the autograph hunters, whilst the television cameras and radio stations captured the day.
“Valleys Kids is a great organisation that helps thousands of youngsters in the South Wales area.” Martyn told the reporters.
“The Cardiff Blues have a close link with them and I’m delighted to be invited down to see the superb work being done and the new Ilan outdoor gym will be of huge benefit to the Rhydyfelin community,”
Martyn was really enthusiastic about the project, funded by Rhydyfelin Communities First and and Big Lottery Way of Life, and he acknowledged that he would have benefited from this kind of facility when he was a youngster.
“There was nothing like this when I was growing up,” he said. “It’s a great idea because not everyone can afford to join a gym.”
The equipment, which includes a seated leg press, a leg lift station, a push up station, a triple pull up station and a sit up bench, is really easy top use and has a already received thumbs up from young people and adults in the Rhydyfelin area.
“I love it, even when Ilan is closed we can be outside, getting fit and it’s free!” enthused local lad Gethin.
So come along and give it a go – maybe you can be the next Martyn Williams.
