The Works
Thursday, October 22, 2009
A wide range of tasters were available throughout the fortnight; the Construction Youth Trust delivered a series of skilled workshops on subjects such as carpentry, plumbing and plastering, whilst the Healthy Living Network facilitated courses in first aid and food hygiene.
The event, which is in its first year, was a huge success and all of the courses were well attended. Leah Williams who attended the playwork taster, run by the Play Association, commented on how much she had enjoyed herself as she “had the chance to meet new people and learn new things.”
The event culminated in an Open Day on Thursday 22nd October at the Ilan Centre. Over 100 people grasped the opportunity to meet local employers such as R.C.T.C.B.C, Tesco and Acorn Recruitment and to receive advice from Careers Wales, Coleg Morgannwg and construction giants Morgan Ashurst amongst others.
